Strongly acidic soil countermeasure construction - Alplus method
Protecting plants from acid rain and strongly acidic soil using recycled shell materials.
This is a resource recycling greening method that uses shell remedy (crushed shell material) made from shells generated in coastal facilities and aquaculture industries to restore vegetation in strongly acidic soils (pH 4.0 or lower). Depending on the presence of spring water from the underlying ground, two types are selected: the corrective material mixing type and the corrective layer construction type. If there is no spring water from the underlying ground, the "corrective material mixing type" is applied, where shell remedy is mixed into the growth substrate and sprayed. If there is spring water from the underlying ground, the "corrective layer construction type" is applied, where an acidic corrective layer using shell remedy is constructed, and the growth substrate is sprayed on top for greening. When greening strongly acidic soils with a pH of 4.0 or lower, if measures against acidic soils are not taken, plants will be directly affected by hydrogen ions, and there will be indirect negative impacts due to changes in soil components and soil microbial dynamics. Therefore, when strongly acidic soils appear, it is difficult to maintain or restore vegetation with standard greening work, and it is necessary to consider the application of the Alplus method as a measure against strongly acidic soils.
